“Use divisions and conferences to organize schedules and rivalries. When the postseason arrives, seed the teams 1-12 in order of finish, regardless of conferences. The best and most exciting playoff in sports, the NCAA men’s March Madness, is a seeded tournament — and the result is fantastic game after fantastic game.”

i have an even better idea.  since the nfl wants to push to an 18-game season, let’s make the 17th and 18th games post-season games, and have a long tournament like march madness.  a 32-team seeded tournament lasting 5 weeks (6 weeks, if you count the week off before the super bowl)!  bye weeks are curses anyway.
